Israeli police raid Al Jazeera's office in Jerusalem
The Israeli Ministry of Communications announced on Sunday that the police raided the Al Jazeera channel office in Jerusalem, after the government’s decision to close the Qatari-owned channel.
Satellite and cable TV service providers in Israel stopped broadcasting the channel on Sunday, following the government’s decision to close the channel “because of the threat it poses to national security,” she said.
Al Jazeera stopped broadcasting in both Arabic and English in Israel.
The closure decision came into effect hours after the government announced the closure of the canal for a period of 45 days, which can be extended.
On Sunday afternoon, Al Jazeera's screen turned black with a message in Hebrew stating that the broadcast was "stopped in Israel."
The government's decision came after the escalation of the dispute between the two sides, following the war in the Gaza Strip.
