Shaan Banday says the scholarship symbolizes the opportunities Canada has provided to him and Sharif.

A new academic scholarship in memory of Sharif Rahman, the beloved Owen Sound, Ont., restaurant owner attacked outside his restaurant a year ago, aims to continue his legacy of civic engagement, and its inaugural recipient is a University of Waterloo student who says he hopes to make an impact of his own.
